Undead in Aurea

Necromancy is legal in most areas of Aurea but is strictly regulated.  You must apply for a permit and prove that you will follow the law.  If the family gives consent then a body can be reanimated as a zombie for menial labor tasks.  Things must be taken into consideration such as rotting of the corpse, smell and "storage".  Typically zombies are not kept for any longer then a month before they are destroyed.

Aureans believe the soul leaves the body immediately after death to continue on its journey so the physical body is just a vessel.  Most families have no problems with it, mainly in very rural areas where it is superstitious.  These areas also speak of some "God" that denounces such things but no such being has ever been proven to exist.

Since the Magical Renaissance necromancy has grown out of hand and too many illegal zombies have been created and simply released to roam the lands.  They tend to gather in packs and create havoc until either soldiers or a band of adventurers looking for a reward destroy them.  If a pack of zombies is known to the area the local government will usually pay a fee to the adventurers if they kill them.  If there are no known zombie packs in the area then the party will be looked upon suspiciously.
